Spring Data Commons Unauthenticated RCE

Published on 16 Jun 2021
Vulnerability

Remote Code Evaluation will result in the entire web application and web server being compromised. Here RCE is performed over Spring Data . Property binder vulnerabilities exist in Spring Data Commons versions prior to 1.13.10, 2.0 to 2.0.5, and older unsupported versions due to insufficient neutralisation of special elements. An unauthenticated remote malicious user (or attacker) may supply specially designed request parameters to Spring Data REST-backed HTTP resources or use Spring Data’s projection-based request payload binding to execute code remotely.

Impact

It is possible to change certain system files or information, but the attacker has no control over what can be changed, or the scope of what the attacker can affect is restricted. There is a decrease in efficiency or a disruption in the availability of resources.

Mitigation / Precaution

In order to patch this vulnerability, please install the official patch Spring Data Commons made available for supported, vulnerable instances. We suggest that you update Spring Data Commons to a version < 2.0.5, in order to fix this vulnerability.
